ECOSE® Technology is a revolutionary, new sustainable proprietary binder technology born from five years of intensive research and development. It is based on rapidly renewable bio-based materials rather than petroleum-based chemicals commonly used in traditional fiberglass insulation product binders.

ECOSE Technology converts natural, rapidly renewable bio-based materials into an inert polymer for superior environmental sustainability. And it does not contain phenol, formaldehyde, acrylics or artificial colors.

By reducing the binder embodied energy up to 70% compared to our traditional fiberglass insulation binder, ECOSE Technology reduces the total embodied energy of EcoBatt® Insulation by approximately 4%.

Industry-Leading Sustainability

Although traditional Knauf products are very sustainable, products with ECOSE Technology are even better. ECOSE Technology replaced our traditional binder, making EcoBatt Insulation products even more sustainable. They deliver the same exceptional quality, handling characteristics and performance that Knauf products are known for—while creating a new industry benchmark for environmental responsibility and sustainability.

ECOSE Technology is plant and process friendly, too. No changes to Knauf’s proven manufacturing process were required to convert operations to the new technology. Eliminating the non-renewable petroleum-based chemicals found in our traditional insulation binders also reduces cost instability associated with those chemicals. And, ECOSE Technology eliminates phenol and formaldehyde from the manufacturing process, which in turn eliminates their plant emissions.

The Next Generation of Sustainable Insulation. . . Naturally from Knauf.

Think of it as green, only browner

Knauf EcoBatt® Insulation doesn’t look like any insulation you’ve ever seen, but that’s because its natural brown color represents a level of sustainability we've never before achieved.

The color comes from ECOSE® Technology, a revolutionary, new sustainable binder born from five years of intensive research. Based on rapidly renewable bio-based materials rather than non-renewable petroleum-based chemicals commonly used in other insulation products, ECOSE Technology reduces binder embodied energy by up to 70%, and does not contain phenol, formaldehyde, acrylics or artificial colors used to make traditional fiberglass insulation.

EcoBatt Insulation combines sand, one of the world’s most abundant and renewable resources, post-consumer recycled bottle glass and ECOSE Technology to create the next generation of sustainable insulation…naturally from Knauf.

Knauf EcoBatt Insulation are thermal and acoustical products made from highly resilient, inorganic glass fibers bonded by a thermosetting resin. The products are available unfaced or with kraft, foil, or flame-rated FSK-25 (Foil-Scrim-Kraft) foil facings.

Knauf EcoBatt Insulation are cost-effective thermal and acoustical barriers for energy-efficient construction. Their consistent quality, low dust, and clean-cutting resilient fibers make fabrication easy and installation fast. The products can be used in new and retrofit wood and metal frame applications in residential and commercial structures, as well as in manufactured housing applications. These applications include thermal and acoustical treatments to walls, ceilings, and floors.

In addition, High Density (HD) batts are available where optimal thermal performance is required and space for insulation is limited. High Density Cathedral Ceiling Batts, for example, deliver greater R-value in less space, so builders can increase R-values and still maintain adequate space for ventilation.

Knauf EcoBatt QuietTherm® Insulation's excellent acoustical properties reduce sound transmission when properly installed in partition walls, ceilings, and floor assemblies.

Knauf EcoBatt Staple-Free Batts are flange-less kraft-faced batts which friction fit between wood studs eliminating the need to staple in place. These batts are designed for use in standard 2" x 4" wood framed construction where the stud spacing is no more than 16" on center.
